PSP Firmware 5.0 Ready For Download

Allright. For all of us who have been waiting for psp firmware 5.0 to be available for download, then here’s your chance. You see, if you go to the Playstation store or even to network settings on your psp, you’ll be able to download psp firmware 5.0.

So what’s so good about it? Well, there are a few things we like.

As you know, we mentioned in an earlier post that PSP firmware 5.0 would be ready for download sometime soon. What we didnt know was that it would be available right now!!!

You see, if you go the Playstation store and download it to your pc, or even update it through your Network settings of your psp, you could be enjoying new stuff.

If you aren’t sure whether to download psp firmware 5.0, then I just want to let you in on some of the new functions. Like having access to the Playstation store to download stuff like games, video and other things. Also you can now output video from Playstation format software to a TV. Perfect for people like me who like to watch movies in their room.

Also, the [Title Display] has been added as an option under (Video Settings). This is a cool feature most of us were requesting for a long time. You know, although there are a few things which have been added and improved, I got to say that this is not a bad update.

…. Now. You heard it hear first. Someone BIG in our community is already close to release a PSARDumper. (I’m guessing you know who that is already!)

Anyway, if you want more psp firmware 5.0 news, you’ll find it here first!

PSP Firmware 5.0

You probably know already that the new PSP 3000 comes out tomorrow. And you also know that with it comes the latest psp firmware and stuff. Anyway, you probably know that it was coming to Japan. However, word has it that firmware 5.0 for the psp will also be coming out soon for the US. Now what that means for you is this.

You will be able to access the PSN and Playstation store from your psp. Something Mac users who have a psp will love.

But you still know that it’s not as good as what the Japanese have it. You see,  Japan psp gamers get to download psp games like Yuusha no Kuze ni Namaikida or2 (10/16), Bleach Soul Carnival (10/23), Secret Agent Clank (11/20) and even Resistance Retribution.

I’m guessing that in the future, they will add this for US psp gamers. I’m just hoping it will be very very soon.

DSi vs. PSP

Nintendo announced its DSi portable device on October 2. Added to the new DS hardware are two megapixel cameras, a slightly larger display and support for SD memory card storage. The unit will also have the ability to download your WiiWare content, play multimedia files and surf the web with its integrated Opera browser. Gamers are definitely excited about the upgrade but critics are viewing the move as a half-step rather than a full step forward

The Sony PSP already boasts several of the new features recently added to Nintendo’s DSi. PSP users can rely on Expandable Pro Due memory cards to accommodate their game, music and video files while firm updates enable the support of various file types. The Sony portable also comes with a nice browser and RSS feed reader.

There is some evidence that the DSi could overwhelm the PSP 2000. The incorporation of two cameras could definitely open up some exciting possibilities for game play. Another plus is the integration with WiiWare. If Nintendo could find a way to deliver seamless access through the DSi, it could be one achievement that gives them an advantage.

According to John Koller of Sony, the company expects considerable growth for the PSP over the next year. Sony is vowing to breathe life into the declining line-up with more support and follow ups to successful franchise titles. Koller says that things didn’t go exactly as the company had expected, admitting that the release of its ports on the system were based on failed strategies. Apparently, publishers making ports of mature-rated games for the PSP quickly found out that the titles weren’t selling well.Koller goes on to say that the PSP isn’t made for ports, citing that titles such as Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, God of War: Chains of Olympus and the upcoming Midnight Club are ported titles that offer a different level of game play for the PSP.

Furthermore, Sony insists that they have a strong lineup of franchise titles ready to go for next year. While it would be nice to get something for the holiday, it looks as if we just may have to wait.

Over the next few months, Sony Japan will be making significant upgrades on its PSP services. This will be done with the highly anticipated native PSP store built right into the portable. There will also be a different network service which allows you to play PSP games online through a Playstation 3, along with a series of bundles for the PSP-3000.

Coming sometime this fall, PSP owners in Japan will have the ability to directly access the Playstation Store, purchase and download content. This is a great addition as they will no longer be required to transfer content to the PSP with a PS3 or PC. The service will call for users to update their device with the latest firmware which will be accessible for all models.

John Koller of the SCEA was recently asked about such features coming to the United States, saying that the native store was something they were looking into. This leads us to believe that the service will eventually be made available to US and European gamers. The problem is that nobody knows when it will ever happen.

psp 3000

After months of speculation, Sony has finally confirmed that they are indeed working on a new PSP. The official announcement was made at the Leipzig Gaming Conference, the European version of E3.The dazzling new hardware is the PSP-3000 which will be available in the popular Piano Black and Mystic Silver. With this upgrade comes minor improvements such as a new screen and a slight cosmetic overhaul. Without further ado, here are the juicy details.

The PSP-3000 is quite similar to the PSP Slim in presentation with a few notable upgrades. For instance, the LCD display comes with a wider color range and higher contrast ratio along with a new anti-reflection feature. The PSP-3000 also contains a built-in microphone to support the Skype messaging application. The new model will come packaged in the Limited Edition Ratchet and Clank Entertainment pack for $199 and as a Core Pack at $160 later this year. The latest issue of Famitsu reveals some intriguing details about an upcoming release for the Sony PSP: Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Apparently the plans changed somewhere in between the first announcement and the most recent statement at the Square Enix press conference. Famitsu reports that the game’s developers weren’t happy with the current state for the mobile environment and decided to develop the title for the more popular and capable PSP platform. The magazine goes on to reveal that Agito XIII will offer a battle system similar to that of Final Fantasy Crisis Core. The ATB system will allow gamers to move freely around the battlefield with the ability to attack and block strikes at will. It has also been reported that Final Fantasy Agito XIII will allow players to control more than one character at a time.

The last word form the popular Japanese publication is online multi-player support for up to 3 players, something that is very rare with Japanese games.

umd format

In 2007, Sony announced that it would be discontinuing support for movie releases in UMD format. It’s believed that a lack of sales and quality control is attributed to the decision. Despite the announcement, several fans have noticed that Sony continues to provide support for UMD.

Sony recently revealed that it plans to release 5 to 7 new titles every few months along with additional titles from their own studios. This sounds like enough support to keep UMD alive for a while.

Company spokesperson John Koller states that one of the main problems with UMD formatted movies was the price, something Sony wants to address with a new approach. Koller goes on to say that titles will now retail at anywhere from $10 to $15. Furthermore, Sony is more focused on better targeting their demographic market with releases in the action and comedy genre rather than romantic dramas.
